OUR ZOLA JESUS COLLAB TAIGA IN NYLON MAGAZINE
Nylon Magazine took some time to interview Nika Rosa Danilova a.k.a. Zola Jesus about her perfume and incense collaboration with Blackbird (us). Check out the article.
TAIGA ON i-D
Zola Jesus just turned latest album, Taiga, into a perfume by the same name. The dark, apocalyptic LP was recorded on an island near Seattle, so it's fitting that Zola teamed up with Seattle-based fragrance makers Blackbird to create the scent. According to the singer, the super gothic fragrance is "the ancient scent of smoke born from the first fire." Expect Omani frankincense, oak, bergamot and geranium.

BLACKBIRD ON MIMIFROUFROU.COM

Blackbird, formerly a menswear clothing store based in Seattle, WA, has morphed into a design studio and perfume house in 2015 with 9 fragrances that reportedly took 9 years to research. They are: Triton, Pipe Bomb, Mizuchi, Hallow, Tinderbox, Iroko, Moto Oud, The Wendol, and Zola Jesus Taiga X Blackbird...
Founder Nicole Miller was interested in particular by so-called "progressive" fragrances wanting to explore the cutting-edge of the perfume industry. The result is characterized as defining a perfume style which "is transportive and modern, yet easy to wear."

Think fine leather and spicy wood, subtly robust and inviting.

BLACKBIRD'S BEARD OIL IN ASKMEN
The first thing our testers noted about this beard oil was its intense scent. “The smell is strong and not my personal favorite,” said Marc.
“The oil was far too pungent,” Guillaume added. “In fact, my eyes watered for a time following application.” He felt the “manly, lumberjack” scent would appeal to some guys, but it was a bit much for his own taste.
The testers also found it made their skin feel a bit irritated immediately upon application, “as if I had applied cologne or aftershave,” described Guillaume — so if you have sensitive skin, this may not be the best option for you.
On the plus side, Marc says, “It was easy enough to work into my beard and didn't come off as too glossy or shiny.”
