Scents are also nontraditional: Blackbird’s top seller is Blood Countess, whose main ingredient is dragon’s-blood resin from Yemen. “I didn’t want to make incense that everyone has smelled before,” Miller explains. Her directive? “Don’t use sandalwood, use licorice.”
